While rejoicing with the first baby of the year at about 12.01am and weighing 3.5kg to the family of Mrs Veronica Adedeji, Mrs Mimiko prayed that God will help fulfil her destiny and gave the baby gift items and cash.

Also presenting gifts and cash to the lucky babies, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju noted that the
delivery of a baby as the first girl is a sign that the state will witness more progress.

Dr. Adeyanju lauded the efforts of Mrs Mimiko for her contributions towards the survival of mothers and children especially through her maternal pulse foundation, describing her as a silent achiever.

Speaking on behalf of parents in the ward, Mrs. Veronica Adedeji thanked the governor for his concern for mothers and children, particularly the less privileged.

The commissioner thereafter visited the Mother and Child Hospital were ten deliveries were recorded as new year babies including a set of triplets and the Arakale Comprehensive Health Center in Akure where there were two new year babies who all got gifts courtesy of the Maternal Pulse foundation and the Ministry of Health.

At the Mother and Child Hospital Akure, Mrs Lydia Peter from Cross River State who was having her second cesarean session free of charge was full of praises for the present administration for not discriminating against her being a non-indigene.

The commissioner was also at the mother and child hospital, Ondo where out of the three new year babies was a set of twins born to a poor couple Mr and Mrs Ayofunmi Olafare, but had the sun of benevolence smile on them as they got cash and gift items from the commissioner in addition to a generous donation of 50,000 naira from an Ondo born philanthropist, Chief Olu Adeduro, the Sara of Ondo kingdom who had come to see for himself the so-much talk about wonders of the world class hospital.
Chief Adeduro also donated 50,000 naira to the hospital.

The couple showered prayers on the government for the construction of the hospital which they noted has relieved poor people like them a great burden of hospital bills.
