Plans are underway to overhaul the curriculum of the Ondo State College of Health Technology to make the institution abreast of modern
day challenges in the sector.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju made this known
at the maiden orientation/registration ceremony of 2011 medical technicians’
graduates of the college.
According to the Commissioner, government is working on the
institution curricular to enable students get the best and update knowledge
needed to thrive in their profession.
Dr Adeyanju congratulated the students on the maiden feat
and urged them to bring to bear on profession, knowledge acquired from the
college.
The commissioner commended the innovative efforts of the
medical laboratory science council on Nigeria at improving the quality of
diagnostic services in Nigeria with a view to improving public confidence in
laboratory services.
He assured the present administration’s commitment to
providing qualitative and exceptional health care services for the people of
the State.
While presenting the 56 graduands, the Head of Medical
Laboratory Department and acting Provost, Uche Odionyenma said from 1977 till
date, the department has produced 120 medical laboratory technicians who are
now high demands all over the country.
The College Provost, Dr Noah Akinola said the inductees have
been well grounded in their profession and expressed optimism that they would
do exploits for themselves and the college.
Dr Akinola appreciated the efforts of government at
providing the institution with N15,000,000.00 (fifteen million naira) for the
purchase of laboratory and appealed for
more support to put them in good shape for accreditation by Laboratory
Council of Nigeria next year.
While inducting the graduands, the Registrar and Chief
Executive Officer of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Professor
Anthony Emeribe, represented by Mr Ray Ekwehlem said the council is doing its
best to raise the profile of the profession.
Two of the inductees, Taiwo Adeleye and Funmilayo Olatemiju
expressed their readiness to live up to expectation of the profession.
