For Nigeria to develop, there must be easy access to quality
health care for all its citizens.
Ondo state commissioner for health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, state
this during the 2012 World Population Day, organised by the Ministry of Health
Primary Health Care & Disease Control Department and titled ‘Universal
Access to Reproductive Health Services.
The commissioner stated that Nigerian government must make
it a point of duty to make good quality
health care accessible to the populace. He also stressed the need for the
country to checkmate its population.
According to him,
“there is poor access to reproductive health care and
contraceptive service, which is why mortality is still high.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of
the Ministry, Dr. Taye Oni who was represented by the Director, Primary Health
Care and Disease Control, Dr. Olayinka Akinsete, had stressed the need to keep
population of the country under control, adding that Nigeria is the most
populous country in Africa.
Also speaking, Deputy Director, Primary Health Care, Dr.
Adelusi Ayodele, said the programme was very important because “for a country
to experience sustainable development, it should be able to manage its resources in such a way that the
citizenry can depend on it. He said the population of the country must be
regulated so that the children can be catered for. Omolade said”reproductive
health is very crucial to the society a world where every pregnancy is wanted,
every childbirth is safe, and every young persons has potential and vision are
fulfilled.”
