The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has again reiterated
its resolve to rid the medical profession in the state of all forms of
quackery.
The state chairman of the monitoring team, Dr Ola Obaado
gave the assurance when he led his team for an oversight visit to some
hospitals in Owo Local Governement Area of the state.
The Hospitals visited include General Hospital, St Louis
Catholic Hospital, Joladek Clinic and Orji Memorial Hospital.
During the visit, the monitoring team interacted with the
hospital management on challenges affecting them and need for compliance with
regulations and ethics of the profession with regards to qualified manpower,
exposure of Doctor to regulate training
and conducive environment.
Dr. Obaado said the council is always ready to help the
hospital partner the Government for all round efficiency.
He however stressed that the council will not hesitate to
deal decisively with any hospital which violates the profession’s operation at
qualities in its bid to get rid of quackery in the system.
Responding, the Medical Director of General Hospital Owo,
Rashe Ibitola, the Chief Matron of St. Louis Catholic Hospital, Rev. Sis.
Catherine Adeyegan and the medical director of Joladek Clinic, Dr Adeagbo
Alimed who thanked the council for the visit, however appealed for more support
from the Government.
The monitoring team also took time to scrutinize the
credentials of doctors of the hospitals, inspected the facilities on ground as
well as made suggestions and recommendation on how to improve on their service.
Finding question from reporters, the leader of the
monitoring team, Dr. Ola Obaado said the team was satisfied with its findings. He
however called on people of the community to always furnish the council with relevant
information on quack doctors or unregistered hospitals in the area.
ther members of the State monitoring team are Doctor Taiwo
Alonge, Doctor Allan Taiwo and Doctor Oludare. Such a monitoring visit had
previously visited Akure and Ondo town respectively.
