The most
effective strategy of protecting children from childhood killer diseases is
administration of vaccines to them. Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the governor of Ondo State made this
known at the flag off ceremony of the September 2012 round of Local
Immunization Days (LIDs) in the state.
He stated that the state has not recorded any case of the
wild polio virus since inception of his administration and promised not to
relent in his efforts to sustain the zero level.
Dr. Mimiko informed the gathering that all the necessary
machinery has been put in place to ensure that all eligible children and
pregnant women are vaccinated.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for
Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, appreciated all the stakeholders and partners and
other developmental organizations for their support and mobilization of women
and children for immunization. He therefore
enjoined all mothers and caregivers to make their children available during
this period for vaccination.
The wife of
the deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Bejide Olanusi who was at the event presented
the Abiye mobile phones to Health workers and pregnant women who registered
under the Abiye Safe motherhood programme for monitoring and tracking. She advised
mothers to take proper care of their children and make use of the various free
health facilities provided by the Mimiko led administration.
Eight laptops and accessories with five numbers of tricycle ambulances were also presented to the Health facilities in Akure North Local Government for the Abiye Plus Programme in the area.
In their goodwill message, Dr. Sunday Abidoye the WHO
representative, who spoke on behalf of other development organizations,
appreciated the state government for the provision of qualitative and
affordable health care facilities for the people in the state. He promised their unalloyed co-operation and support for
the government.
This round of Local Immunization days (LIDs) will
commence throughout the state from Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st
September, 2012.
